17 October 2007 Kids 'cause carnage in school holidays'
Parents who like to keep their homes pristine may wish to take their children on holiday over the upcoming half-term and Christmas holiday periods, after it was reported that they can cause over £100 million of damage on school breaks.
According to Sainsbury's Bank, rowdy children and feral pets can cause up to £106 million of damage during holiday periods - especially when bad weather forces them to stay indoors.
"If the weather is poor and they have to spend more time indoors, the chances of your home being damaged in some way by them or their friends increases," commented Sainsbury's Steve Johnson.
The research suggests that the areas most likely to be damaged include walls, carpets, flooring, furniture, windows, garage, doors and electronic equipment.
For some parents, it may be preferable to take their children on holiday over half-term for a relaxing break.
UTV Talk recently reported that a Post Office poll revealed that the US is the number one destination that children would like to travel to over half-term, followed by France, the Caribbean, Australia, Spain and Italy.
