08 November 2007 LA and New York are "top destinations" for Heathrow travellers
Los Angeles and New York are among popular travel destinations for tourists flying from Heathrow over the festive period, it has been claimed.
According to a spokesperson for the airport, the major American cities are set to remain in the top ten most visited places during Christmas as a result of the country's reputation for being a shopping mecca.
She said: "It is fair to say that New York and Los Angeles remain one of the top destinations for travel from Heathrow over the Christmas period."
The representative also reported that the airport's owning company, British Airports Authority, does not track passenger bookings but rather notes the levels of scheduled flights.
Earlier this week, Frances Tuke from the Association of British Travel Agents reported that Spain and the Canary Islands are two of the most popular winter break destinations for British travellers.
Meanwhile, Paris and Amsterdam are also attractive city break locations.
