23 September 2006 Laid back seats for Saudi travel
Travellers splashing out on business class seats to Saudi Arabia for a relaxing break may be able to unwind easier on the flight over as an airline announces the introduction of lie-flat beds to its fleet.
British Midland Airways (bmi) has said that from June next year that all the business class cabin seats on its Airbus A330 craft will come with the 80 inch pitch seats.
Sir Michael Bishop, chairman of bmi, has said that support received for allowed the company to expand its flights from Heathrow to Jeddah earlier this year, in addition to the capital Riyadh.
"We are proud and delighted to be the only British carrier serving Saudi Arabia and are confident that our investment in the introduction of lie-flat beds will create further demand and growth on these routes," he said.
"We will also be reintroducing the A330 onto our Riyadh and Jeddah routes from next spring," he added.
Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Muhammad, is described as "beautiful and praiseworthy" by the World Travel Guide.
This year's Hajj festival falls towards the end of December and start of January, with pilgrims from all over the world, visiting the holy city of Mecca.
