11 February 2008 Luggage restrictions 'eased'
Passengers using Gatwick Airport's North Terminal for connecting flights will be allowed to carry more than one piece of hand luggage as of next Monday (February 11th).
Subject to the airline's permission, travellers can take advantage of this change in the rules which saw hand luggage restricted after a security scare in August 2006.
Those using the facility's South Terminal have been able to carry more than one cabin bag since January 7th of this year, although the airport reiterated that the one-bag rule still will still apply for flights from other terminals.
"This rule will be relaxed in the near future when the ongoing construction project to upgrade and expand the security facilities at the airport is completed," a statement from Gatwick Airport said.
Recent security measures implemented at the airport include an increase in the number of security officers and lanes.
The facility saw its passenger numbers rise by 2.7 per cent in December compared with the same period in 2006, according to BAA.
