28 October 2005 Luxury tourist train accident in South Africa
South Africa's luxury Blue Train was involved in a head-on collision last night in an accident which injured ten people.
The train, which is famous for carrying mostly tourists between Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria, was struck by the passenger-carrying Trans Karoo express train in the central Karoo region, reports the BBC.
Occurring at 11pm yesterday evening, it has been reported that the Karoo express hit the tourist train when it was diverted onto the latter's tracks where the Blue Train was waiting stationary.
Although earlier reports suggested that there were a great many more injured, a spokesman for the transport company Transnet told South African Broadcasting Corporation that there were just ten people injured.
Those injured are believed to include a number of railway employees as well as two Japanese tourists.
