28 November 2007 Massive moose to be built on Swedish mountain
Planning permission for a 148 foot-high building shaped like a moose has been granted in Sweden.
Local officials in Norrbotten county have given the go-ahead for the giant moose structure to be built on the Vithatten mountain in north Sweden.
The venue - which is expected to become a tourist magnet - will seat 350 people and will serve as a concert hall and restaurant, to be entered and exited via the moose's mouth.
"This is such unbelievably good news. My whole body is shaking with joy. We have so much to offer up here, with all our cheeses, the gold of Lapland and so much more besides. I think [it] will help us attract lots of international tourism," commented Thorbjorn Holmlund, creator of the moose-restaurant concept.
Visitors will have a view of the Swedish valleys from the moose's antlers, which are set at 500 metres above sea level.
According to Sweden's online news publication the Local, the moose's front legs will be located in Norrbotten county while its rear end will stand in Vasterbotten, with the reception area for guests set to be positioned somewhere in the moose's throat.
