20 December 2007 Mauritius and Malta tipped for 2008
Popular winter holiday destinations in 2008 could include sunny spots like Mauritius, Thailand, Australia, South Africa and other tropical islands, it has been reported.
According to Holiday Lettings, the Canary Islands are also hits in terms of winter holidays, due to the 365 days of guaranteed sunshine the archipelago offers.
The company also reports that travel requests to the Canaries are three-times more popular in December than they are in the summer months of July and August.
Malta is also a destination expected to draw in tourists next year over the school holidays.
Holiday Lettings notes that while Spain, France and Italy are likely to retain their crown as most popular for school break holidays, Malta is "climbing the popularity ladder".
Earlier this year, the Association of British Travel Agents reported that Spain's Costa Del Sol is a popular Christmas holiday spot for Britons, although the year-round sunshine offered by the Canary Islands could not be matched.
