02 October 2007 Media 'over-exaggerated lack of snow in Alps'
The media over-exaggerated the lack of snow in Alp ski resorts last year, it has been claimed.
According to a report in the Independent, the International Herald Tribune on stated that a lack of snow "threatens to cancel winter in Europe" on December 8th, however the Independent reports that snowfall in Val d'Isere for the ski season was above the annual average at 4.77 metres in the village.
Furthermore, the newspaper notes that while some low-lying areas in the Alps suffered from a shortage of snow, French ski-lift operator Compagnie des Alpes reported a slight increase in revenue.
The Ski Club of Great Britain has reported that at the beginning of October snow has fallen over "large parts" of the Alps.
Additionally, the club claimed that a number of glacier resorts in the Alps have "excellent" conditions for this time of the ski season.
