23 November 2006 Mexico travellers get shopping tips
Britons planning on heading to Mexico in time to get their Christmas shopping done may be interested in a list of hints gleaned from a survey of travellers.
Holidaymakers with CheapCarribean.com reported a range of advice to holidaymakers heading to Central America to shop.
Tips include taking a taxi to the bargain hotspots, being prepared to haggle and negotiate for a better price, conversing with the locals, exchanging money before you travel and carrying small denominations of currency with you for shops and stalls that don't have change.
"We all know how easy it is to plunk down the plastic when shopping in places like Mexico's Puerto Vallarta and neighbouring Nuevo Vallarta, both famous for great deals," the company reports.
"But that doesn't mean you should spend more than you want to," it added.
Earlier this year, American Express reported that the average Briton's spending abroad reached £828.69, with holidaymakers spending on shopping, presents, outings, food, drink and entertainment.
