21 December 2005 Millions of Brits to spend Christmas abroad
Millions of Brits are set to spend their Christmas abroad, according to the British Airports Authority (BAA).
Despite a year of natural disasters and terrorism attacks, more than three million people are expected to pass through Britain's seven major airports over the peak Christmas travelling period.
Life Style Extra reports that lastminute.com found India to be the number one choice for travellers this holiday season, followed by other far flung destinations such as Kenya, Gambia and the Maldives.
"Trips to India have outsold holidays in the States this Christmas which we believe is an indication of the country's booming tourism industry," said John Bevan, holiday and flights director for lastminute.com.
"It's no longer just the preserve of backpackers, India is now a mainstream holiday choice for couples, groups and families," he added.
Despite not topping the destination list, the Caribbean and Florida are still proving popular with Brits hoping to escape the winter weather.
