24 November 2005 Millions risking health without travel insurance
Alarming figures showing people's lack of concern for travel protection were released yesterday.
American Express found that nearly three million people went abroad last year without taking out travel cover, seriously risking their personal and financial health.
The insurer emphasised how by spending a relatively small amount on travel protection, people could be saving much greater amounts in the event of an accident or illness while on holiday.
"Travel insurance is so important as it covers you for situations you can never anticipate no matter how well you plan in advance," commented Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express.
The advice comes in anticipation of the ski season, where claims for injuries can soar due to painful injuries on the slopes.
Such injuries can occasionally require the need to be airlifted and repatriated to the UK, which, according to American Express, can cost up to £10,000.
