22 January 2007 Millions to book holidays before the end of February
Millions of Britons are to use the time between Christmas and the end of February to book their trips abroad, it has been reported.
Sainsbury's Bank claims that 15.44 million Britons plan on booking a holiday abroad during this time, with the average spend reaching £677 per person.
Sainsbury's Bank urges holidaymakers to shop around for a competitive price on insurance, noting that 12 per cent of those booking trips at this time will not do so and instead purchase cover from their travel agent.
Robert O'May, travel insurance manager at the company, said: "As people take more holidays, often travelling further afield and participating in more adventurous activities, travel insurance is now more important than ever before."
He added that holidaymakers should not be pressured into purchasing their travel insurance from a travel agent but instead take the time to look for the best deal.
Earlier this year, financial services comparison company Moneysupermarket.com advised those going abroad to not be "bullied or bamboozled" into purchasing travel insurance from a travel agent.
