14 November 2006 Montreal 'as popular as ever' for travellers
UK holidaymakers wanting a trip away this winter may be enticed by a new promotional campaign launched by Tourisme Montreal.
The occupancy rates for hotels in the region rose last winter, up three per cent to 55.4 per cent, the first increase in four years.
Among a number of other attractions occurring in the next few months, a taste test of a number of top chefs in Europe alongside their peers from New York will compete from February 22nd-March 4th.
Charles Lapoint, president and chief executive officer of Tourisme Montreal, said: "Beyond a doubt, the culinary aspects of the Montreal High Lights Festival have really put this city on the global gastronomic map."
The campaign includes the group's Sweet Deal package - where accommodation for a second night is half-price at any participating hotel - that may entice holidaymakers to purchase cover for a few more days and extend their trip.
Party package provider Montreal VIP recently reported that city has become a "popular haven" for New Year's Eve parties, with many tourists attracted to celebrate New Year there each year.
