29 January 2008 More travellers shopping online for holidays
There has been a rise in the number of Britons looking to purchase flights and holidays online, it has been revealed.
According to the Nielson Company, the market for online shopping rose by 40 per cent in the last two years while over 85 per cent of the global online population has used the internet for a purchase at some point.
Airline tickets made up 24 per cent of the online products purchased in the last three months.
"Travel is a category extremely suited to the internet due to the latter's ability to provide efficient access to an extremely wide range of comparable information. It [now plays] an integral part in the arrangements and experience of today's traveller," Jonathan Carson, president of Nielsen Online commented.
It was revealed that travel was the fourth most popular form of online shopping, with over 70 per cent of Indians and more than 60 per cent of Irish and United Arab Emirates online consumers using the internet to buy airline tickets in the last three months.
