13 April 2007 Morocco launches charter of responsible tourism
Morocco has announced its intention to increase the number of tourists visiting the country, with its tourist office launching a charter of responsible tourism to the UK travel industry.
The kingdom reports that it has only recently looked to develop its tourist industry, but claims that this enables it to use examples of best practice as a template.
Abbas Azzouzi, chief executive officer of the Moroccan National Tourist Office, said: "Morocco's tourism is based on key values, culture traditions, history, nature and its people."
He added that the kingdom was looking to both protect and develop these assets, with a number of travel companies signing up to the published code of ethics.
The tourist office recommends a number of attractions for visitors to Morocco, including beaches, museums, archaeological sites and traditional towns known as "medinas".
Last year, Churchill predicted that new destinations such as Morocco and Israel would become the ski locations of choice for holidaymakers by 2050.
