09 January 2008 Mozambique tops the 2008 travel "It List"
The African country of Mozambique has been placed at the top of 2008's travel "It List" it has been announced.
In the list, compiled by Concierge.com, Mozambique was followed by the tropical island of St Lucia in second place and Montenegro in third as "must-see" destinations for the new year.
Also making the top ten were Ecuador, Sicily, San Diego, Oman, Paris, Hainan Island in China and Puerto Escondido and the Oaxacan Coast in Mexico.
"Mozambique was in a bloody civil war 15 years ago, and it has blossomed into a safari and scuba diving mecca, with a vibrant capital," commented Peter J Frank, editor-in-chief of Concierge.com.
He added: "Many of the destinations on this year's list have undergone a transformation."
Mozambique is a country in south eastern Africa and is bordered by Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Swaziland and South Africa. It gained its independence from Portugal in 1975.
