05 November 2007 Music fans expected to flock to Wales
Fans of Rocket Man Elton John are forecast to head to Wales next year to see the singer-songwriter play a one-off gig at the Liberty Stadium on June 29th 2008.
The concert is expected to draw thousands of tourists to Swansea, with many fans of the star predicted to take the opportunity of the event to enjoy a weekend break in Wales, thisisswansea.co.uk reports.
Geoff Haden, vice-chairman of Tourism Swansea Bay, said: "This is what Swansea needs, a big name like this playing in the city."
He added that the gig should provide a boost to the city's usually slack tourist figures for June, with the concert draw fans from the UK and worldwide, in addition to home-grown support at the home ground of Swansea City football club.
Earlier this year, reformed art rockers The Who played Liberty Stadium as part of their European tour in support of their recently released Endless Wire LP.
