28 April 2006 New Orleans gets its jazz back
New Orleans is playing host to a jazz festival from Friday and welcoming back tourists travelling to the US.
Local and international stars will be performing at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, which is predicted to be "very emotional" by Roger Lewis, a saxophonist in the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who play at the event.
Having held a scaled-down Mardi Gras festival in February, the jazz fest will be the second test for the city's suffering tourism industry.
It is the first jazz festival since Hurricane Katrina and despite more tranquil weather conditions.
Jazz fans will be able to see star names such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello play alongside regulars Fats Domino, Dr. John and Allen Toussaint.
Around ten stages and tents will provide the platform for jazz musicians and other acts to entertain the crowd in an event that runs from April 28th to May 7th.
