04 March 2006 New York suffers deadly snowstorm
A four-year-old boy has been left in a critical condition after a truck hit his parents' car in hazardous driving conditions.
His parents and three-year-old sister were killed in the accident.
Heavy snowfall in New York has made travelling conditions treacherous in places, with some areas experiencing up to 229 millimetres (nice inches) of snowfall in the last day.
Jeffrey Vandermark was driving the family car on state Route 96 when the vehicle skidded on the snow-covered road and hit a truck belonging to the state's department of transportation.
Fire chief at Candor, Randy Blinn, told the Press & Sun Bulletin: "I'd never seen anything like it."
He went on to say that the car was "pretty much destroyed".
The accident is just one of many that have occurred due to the severe weather, which, if it affects flights at the state's airports, could prove both costly and frustrating for travellers.
