26 October 2007 Older "overseas exodus" is 'growing'
An increasing number of older people are choosing to travel overseas and buy property each year, it has been reported.
Research from Bradford and Bingley reveals that 57 per cent of Brits who own a property abroad are over the age of 55.
Meanwhile, those aged over 50 currently account for a third of all overseas trips taken.
Nonetheless, according to the study, nearly half - or 48 per cent of people older than 55 wish they had travelled more.
"It appears many over-55s do have something they regret, but in most cases it is not too late to do something about it. Putting money aside and making it work for them means they are one step closer to realising their dreams," commented Paul Whitlock, head of savings at Bradford and Bingley.
Research from Saga recently revealed that ten per cent of over-50s were considering retiring abroad potentially to France or Spain.
