31 January 2008 Older travellers 'wish they had taken year out at 18'
Consumers taking a year out of their careers in order to travel later on in life regret not doing so when they were 18, it has been revealed.
According to Gapyear.com, gap year travel is broken down into three sectors with the career gappers - or 25 to 35 year-old sector - being the fastest growing section.
Other groups making up the gap year travel triangle include 18 to 24 year olds - who are most likely to be students - and 55 to 65 year old travellers.
"The reason for the growth in the 25-35 year market, the career gap market, is that they are part of a generation that took the first gap year in the late nineties," commented Tom Griffiths, founder of Gapyear.com.
He added that those now travelling missed out first time around and now have reached the age of 30 "and are having a quarter life crisis".
A Mintel Gap Year report issued in 2005 reveals that such breaks are an option for all people in transition between life stages and this travel has a "staggering" effect on staff retention in businesses around the world.
