05 April 2007 One-fifth of men 'have money stolen abroad'
Some 18 per cent of men have fallen victim to thieves and had cash taken while on holiday, according to a new poll.
In warning to people who neglect to take out travel insurance, 13 per cent of women also had money stolen from them, reveals a survey from Lloyds TSB.
The firm also finds that holidaymakers living in the north of England have suffered the most thefts, with one in five falling prey to thieves.
Lloyds asserts that people are now taking extra precautions to keep their money safe, such as buying a bum bag.
Jatin Patel, head of foreign transactions and travel, comments: "In a bid to keep our cash safe it seems that we are willing to go to embarrassing fashion extremes".
Senior researcher Cathy Neal from consumer group Which? recently told This Is Money that Britons underestimate the importance of travel insurance "at their peril".
