22 November 2007 Online passport applications 'popular'
More people are opting to apply for UK passports online, it has been reported.
According to the Identity and Passport Service (IPS), an "increasing number" of people are updating the crucial piece of travel documentation in this manner.
Ease of use is the main reason for this shift in trends, the IPS notes, as consumers prefer the convenience of a form online rather than requesting a form in the post.
Meanwhile, a Check & Send service offered by the Post Office and WorldChoice travel agents is available to customers and checks applications prior to them being sent away - which could also speed up the process.
"It reduces the likelihood of the Identity and Passport Service needing to contact the customer, so most applications are processed within two weeks of receiving them," a spokesperson commented.
According to the Post Office, a third of Brits list filling out an application form as the biggest cause of frustration when renewing their passport.
