05 November 2005 "Over 30" die as boat capsizes
The capsizing of a boat in Pakistan which has killed a number of people has highlighted the danger of poorly-equipped boats in foreign countries.
More than 30 people are thought to have died after a fishing boat capsized in the sea off the coast of Pakistan in the early hours of this morning.
According to the BBC, only 17 bodies have been found so far, with 14 confirmed dead.
The 52 people aboard the boat were travelling to a remote village when the accident happened.
Although the cause is not known at the moment, officials have said that it may have been due to overcrowding.
A provincial government spokesman Salahuddin Haider told Reuters: "At the moment we feel the boat was overloaded and they failed to take required precautionary measures."
According to correspondents boats in Pakistan are often poorly maintained, overcrowded and rarely carry life jackets.
Travellers to regions where conditions are likely to be the same should always be aware of the potential dangers of travelling on such modes of transport.
