08 August 2007 Overseas weddings 'increasing in popularity'
An increase in the number of flights to potential wedding destinations and the building of new hotels at these locations is helping to boost the popularity of overseas nuptials, it has been claimed.
Wedding and honeymoon specialist White Sand Weddings reports that the construction of luxury hotels in places like the Caribbean, some with their own wedding coordinator, has played a role in inspiring Britons to head across the sea before taking the plunge.
Mark Bell, a spokesperson for the company, said: "Weather is clearly one reason why so many couples choose to tie the knot abroad - and after such conditions over the past few months, we have noticed an increase in enquiries for 2008/9 weddings."
He added that couples should look in to taking out a supplement to their standard travel insurance policy to cover the cost of reception venues, wedding photography and other similar services.
In March 2006, Direct Line reported that 24 per cent of Britons who married in the previous two years elected to do so overseas.
