26 July 2007 Package holidays 'still alive and kicking'
Despite the popularity of DIY holidays where travellers book their own transport and accommodation separately, the convenience of the package holiday is keeping the format very much alive, it has been claimed.
Online travel agent Global Holidays notes that there is indeed plenty of choice available to DIY-holiday bookers, but that to assemble a trip from scratch is not necessarily the fastest or simplest way to organise a holiday.
David Brice, managing director of the firm, said: "Package holidays have not died, that's for sure.
"There are still more package holidays sold than anything else. It's just so convenient."
He added that holidaymakers booking a package trip also have the advantage of the consumer protection afforded through their travel agent in case of problems abroad, such as an airline becoming insolvent or difficulties with accommodation.
In January 2007, financial services comparison company moneysupermarket.com advised Britons to not purchase travel insurance from their agent, but instead shop around for the best deal.
