11 February 2008 Paris is "luxury" Valentine's Day getaway
Paris has been listed as a "luxury" getaway for Valentine's Day, with the French city having much to offer love-struck couples.
According to a survey by comparison service uSwitch.com, some £700 million is set to be spent on celebrating February 14th this year, with men shelling out twice as much as their female counterparts.
And for those jetting off on a romantic mini-break, Paris could be ideal given its rich history, beautiful sights and proximity to the UK.
The research from uSwitch.com found that the average cost per couple staying in the French capital is £121 per night - making a long weekend potentially attainable.
Other "luxury" destinations listed were New York, Dubai, Venice and the Seychelles - although in terms of travel time, Paris is likely to be the best bet for many Britons.
The Eurostar service now runs from St Pancras International and can take from two hours 20 minutes to reach Paris.
Budget airlines also offer a range of flights, with the city's main airport, Charles de Gaulle International, 14 miles from the hub of the capital.
