28 January 2006 Passengers delayed as plane overshoots runway
Passengers were faced with severe delays after a Swiss jet overshot the runway at Stuttgart Airport in Germany on Thursday.
Some 25 flights were cancelled as the runway was forced to close for two and a half hours.
All crew and 40 passengers on the Swiss International Airlines Embraer jet were left unharmed after the plane overshot the runway while trying to land during snowy conditions.
After disembarking from the plane via the normal aircraft stairs, passengers were looked after by the Swiss flight crew and the ground personnel at Stuttgart Airport and were able to leave soon after, traveldailynews.com reports.
Unexpected cancellations due to accidents and the weather serve to highlight the need for travel insurance in case extra costs are incurred as a result of delays.
Frankfurt airport was also forced to close one of its runways due to the weather, leading to a number of delays and at least one cancellation.
