28 November 2007 Popular winter getaways
Britons looking to escape the UK weather this festive season may be considering a variety of Christmas breaks, it has been reported.
According to Bradford & Bingley, an "increasing" number of older travellers are looking to avoid dark days and cold weather by taking extended breaks in the sun to countries like Spain.
Meanwhile, for a family holiday during yuletide, Britons could be considering a trip to Lapland where they can enjoy sleigh rides and visits to Father Christmas.
Other popular excursions can include snow sports holidays, with the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) predicting that 1.3 million Britons will hit the slopes this winter.
"Snow is already falling across the Alps and North America and so signs are positive for early on in the season. France again will be the number one destination, with Austria, Italy, Andorra and North America the next most popular destinations," Francis Tuke of Abta commented.
