28 September 2007 Portugal 'popular for weddings'
The Algarve is becoming an increasingly popular spot for couples who wish to marry in the sunshine, it has been revealed.
According to the Portugal Resident, foreign couples opt for five-star resorts in the Algarve to celebrate their matrimony.
However, the publication reports that the region is not only popular among tourists, but also romantic Portuguese couples.
"We opted for a hotel because of the constraints and bureaucracy involved; it offers us everything including baby-sitting services and a chocolate fountain," Ines Neto, a Portuguese bride who chose to opted for a five-star Algarve hotel in order to celebrate her wedding on the beach told the newspaper.
Meanwhile, a hotel manager in Lagos added that he had hosted roughly 20 weddings at the venue since its opening 15 years ago.
According to the proprietor, couples were attracted there because of the "intimate and romantic" setting as well as the ocean view.
