03 April 2007 Prague named cheapest city break destination
With 2.4 million Brits expected to take a foreign break over the Easter weekend, travel industry experts have announced that Prague is the cheapest destination in Europe to enjoy a short break.
According to research carried out by the Co-op Travelcare, an average break to the Czech capital costs just £203.89, with affordable flights to the city complementing the cheap food and drink on offer.
A three-course meal in Prague comes with an average cost of £6.64, with a pint of Guinness costing £2.34 and a coffee just £1.11.
"The study indicates why cities in Eastern Europe have grown quickly in popularity with UK tourists," said a spokesman for the Co-op.
"Not only is there plenty to see, but prices are keen."
In addition to the city's continued popularity with both single travellers and families, Britons are now spending more on travel, with £5.5 billion expected set to be spent during the Easter holidays.
