19 July 2007 Premium Economy 'a growing market'
A leading airline has reported that despite the enduring popularity of economy class travel for tourists, the relatively new class of Premium Economy flights is an ever growing market.
Virgin Atlantic reports that its sales of Premium Economy class seats rose by over 50 per cent between the turn of the century and 2005, claiming that a number of different business and tourist passengers are opting to upgrade to this service.
Anna Knowles, head of public relations at the firm, said: "The attraction of our new Premium Economy class is not only more space with the wider leather seat but the service that accompanies it."
She cited features such as priority luggage handling, priority checking and additional meal choices as factors leading some to opt for the higher class of travel.
Last month, Virgin Atlantic hosted a Sunglasses Styling Clinic for its passengers in Upper Class seats visiting its Heathrow Clubhouse during June, with Lucy Garrett offering consultations for both men and women wanting the best shades for their trips abroad.
