04 June 2007 Pre-paid travel card 'can replace travellers cheques'
Britons put off by the possible inconvenience of travellers cheques or those wanting to avoid potential currency exchange charges have been advised to use a pre-paid travel money card on their holidays.
InsureandGo has recently launched its own card of this type, which it predicts will reduce the number of travellers cheques used by holidaymakers.
Noting that some outlets refuse to take cheques, the company also points to the potential budgeting advantages of using this means of payment in preference to credit cards.
Perry Wilson, director of the firm, said: "Credit cards these days have £2,000, £3,000, £5,000 limits.
"It's so tempting to say: 'Let's just go out again tonight'."
He added that holidaymakers can top up the cards if necessary when abroad by text, phone, or over the internet.
Last month, the Post Office advised Britons to keep a list of their purchases abroad to aid their holiday budgeting efforts, while urging the use of a pre-paid card to remove the risk of overspending when overseas.
