21 September 2006 Public told to take care choosing travel insurance
Travellers looking to buy adequate single trip or annual travel insurance before going on holiday have been urged to ensure they are properly covered for the potential expenses involved in event of a terrorist incident.
Nick Starling, director of general insurance at the Association of British Insurers, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that holidaymakers should buy travel insurance to suit their trip abroad to get adequate cover at an appropriate price.
"There are many things that travel insurance might cover and there may be some insurance policies where you might not be so interested in terrorism cover," he told the programme
"We don't want lots to be piled on automatically on insurance policies, so that they can remain affordable," he added.
Last month a number of flights were grounded at some British airports and baggage restrictions introduced after a security incident, with reports that many holidaymakers were forced to book hotel rooms at airports.
