11 January 2008  "Record high" for London City Airport
London City Airport has reported a "record high" in terms of passenger numbers travelling in 2007.

According to the hub, more than 2.9 million holidaymakers and business passengers travelled to and from the airport last year.

The airport claims that its popularity "continues to grow" and that it is planning a number of new routes for 2008 including flights to Nice, Barcelona, Warsaw and Amsterdam in the coming months.

"[London City Airport] had a great 2007. [Its] convenient location, combined with fast check-in and arrival processing times, appeals to time-poor business travellers," commented Richard Gooding OBE, chief executive of London City Airport.

He added: "There is no doubt that passengers all across London and the South East are waking up to the options offered by this airport."

London City Airport is located six miles from central London.
