17 October 2007 Regional airports 'boost local tourism'
The growth of regional airports can help boost tourism in the area in which they are located, it has been revealed.
A spokesperson for Bristol International Airport made the observation while discussing benefits brought to the region by a new Bristol to New York service.
Tony Hallwood, aviation development director at Bristol International Airport, commented that New York has become a "convenient and affordable destination" for both leisure and business travellers in south-west England.
"At the same time, an increasing number of US visitors are also enjoying easier access to this region's attractions, such as Bath, historic Bristol, the Cotswolds and Stonehenge," he continued.
A spokesperson for Southampton Airport recently noted that regional airports offer consumers "quick" and "easy" services.
