18 September 2007 Rihanna to perform in mountain gig
Singer Rihanna is set to perform in an opening ceremony for the ski village of Ischgl in Austria.
The chanteuse, who hails from the warmer climes of Barbados, is scheduled to sing at the resort's Top Of The Mountain concert on December 1st at dusk.
Previously, artists such as Tina Turner, Pink, The Pussycat Dolls, Elton John and the Scissor Sisters have performed at the concert, which marks the opening weekend of the Austrian ski resort's five-month long ski season.
"Ischgl skiers expect to see the best stars and experience the best skiing and that's what we give them, with superstars ... performing in our concerts and a fantastic 235 kms of pisted runs up on the mountain enjoyed by skiers and boarders," tourism director of the resort Andreas Steibl commented.
Folk legend Bob Dylan has also performed at the event, which this year will also mark the opening of a £13.5m replacement Fimbabahn gondola lift with heated seats.
Popular with younger skiers, Ischgl hosts Austria's only Pacha nightclub.
