12 July 2007 Round the world trips 'are always popular'
Despite growing concerns in some quarters regarding the effect of increasing carbon emissions on the environment, a travel firm specialising in adventure travel maintains that round-the-world trips have retained their popularity.
Travel Nation reports that it has a partnership with a charity that manages carbon neturalisation for the firm, with holidaymakers able to use a link on their site to counteract emissions caused by their travels through offsetting schemes.
Haydn Wrath, managing director of the firm, said: "We have always tried to come up with ideas about how people can try to help the environment and where people are invited to pay money to offset their emissions."
He also expressed plans to establish a service offering customers a precise measurement of how much carbon they have to offset per mile of their journey.
In January 2007, Halifax reported that approximately a quarter of Britons were planning on offsetting the carbon from their travels this year, while around the same amount pledged to take more domestic trips to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases.
