24 October 2006 'Safe' Malta gets tour programme expanded
Britons wanting a Mediterranean holiday next year may take interest as a UK tour operator expands its programme in Malta, Tribune Properties has reported.
YourMalta.com, a Malta destination guide, said that the move by MyTravel could give the tourist industry in the country "real hope" for improvement after a drop in visitors during 2006.
It was also noted that US traveller Laura McKenize had recently ranked the country as being one of the top five tourist destinations in the world for safety, though the Foreign Office issues its standard advice that travellers purchase comprehensive travel cover and medical insurance before visiting Malta.
"In Malta there is no such thing as a dark and uninviting alley, while the police force is one of the oldest in the world," she said.
Tribune Properties said that the news from MyTravel, which includes Airtours and Direct Holidays, has come after an agreement with Air Malta for the increase of flight capacity and a new route from Liverpool.
