05 October 2007 Seafood festival in Spain
The Galician peninsula in Spain is this month hosting its annual El Grove Fiesta de Exaltacion del Marisco - or Seafood Festival.
According to Galicia's tourist website, the region's food is full of variety and this is why it is popular - noting.... to talk about its seafood "would be a cliche".
Classed by the Guardian as one of the top-ten autumn breaks for gourmands, the festival takes place during the first fortnight of October and sees stalls of seafood set up along the seafront along with cookery demonstrations and wine tasting.
"Nothing is produced in Galicia with such care and attention as wine," oenologist Xose Posada is quoted as saying by Galacia's La Guia Turistica.
The Galacian style of serving seafood sees shrimp, cuttlefish and squid served in its ink cooked as a starter while barnacles, as the Guardian points out, are a Galician favourite.
For the main course La Guia Turistica suggests crayfish, lobster, prawns, scallops, clams and mussels before finishing off with octopus.
