07 February 2008 Search for new seventh wonder 'is on'
The search is on for the new Seventh Wonder of Nature, it has been reported.
According to Hualapai Tribe-owned Grand Canyon Resort Corporation, the Grand Canyon is a "likely contender" for the title of new Seventh Wonder of Nature.
Non-profit organisation New7Wonders Foundation launched the campaign to select the New Seven Wonders of Nature and the campaign due to start officially in January 2009.
"Organisers behind the event have tipped the Grand Canyon as a possible favourite along with other nominees such as Mount Fuji and the Amazon Rainforest, to be voted as a New Seventh Wonder of Nature," Grand Canyon Resort Corporation commented.
The Grand Canyon was created six million years and measures more than 446 kilometres long and between six and 29 kilometres in width with depths of more than 1.6 kilometres.
Tourists can visit the Grand Canyon's Skywalk which offers views from 4,000 feet above the Colorado River.
