21 September 2007 Security 'discourages holidaymakers'
The thought of security controls has put off would-be holidaymakers from travelling to the United States, it has been claimed.
According to Escapes2, negative perceptions of security procedures and immigration controls at US airports has discouraged travellers from otherwise making trips to the country.
However, managing director of the firm Adrian McDermott notes that measures are being taken to negate this and improve the immigration system.
"The US government is aware that tourist numbers have dropped this year [in terms of] visitors from the UK. They're aware that there is a problem, and they are, apparently, going to try to start putting on a friendlier face for visitors to the States," Mr McDermott commented.
The managing director added that recent press articles suggest that there is the suggestion of introducing a meet and greet system so that passengers disembarking at US airports will initially be met with a friendly face.
