10 April 2007 Single sex holidays 'on the rise'
Increasing numbers of Britons are electing to head abroad with members of their own sex, it has been claimed, with travellers giving a number of reasons for their choice.
Research from Halifax reveals that 67 per cent of UK holidaymakers are more likely to take a trip with friends of their own sex than they were half a decade ago, with 26 per cent of men and 16 per cent of women doing so in the last year.
Vicky Watson of the company said: "The rise of single-sex holidays shows there is an increased appetite for holidaying with friends of the same sex."
She added that this trend is a result of some Britons feeling more comfortable being on holiday with members of their own sex alongside other causes such as the rise of stag nights taken abroad.
The company notes that it is essential to purchase adequate insurance for all holidays abroad, with lost baggage accounting for 43 per cent of all claims in the last year on single-sex holidays.
Last year, NatWest reported that those travelling to Russia or the US on foreign stag holidays could take advantage of positive exchange rates and make the most of their money abroad compared to those choosing Euroland countries as their destination.
