14 January 2008 Single-person households 'take more annual trips than couples with children'
Those living in single-person households take 50 per cent more holidays on a yearly basis than couples with children, it has been reported.
According to a new report published by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) - Recent Trends in Growth of UK Air Passenger Demand - those living in households which earn more than £115,000 per annum are more likely to take 60 per cent more holidays per year than consumers earning under £40,000.
Another factor in the CAA's report suggested that those who own a property abroad are likely to increase their annual number of trips abroad by 55 per cent.
"Looking to the longer term, demographic changes and ownership of homes abroad are also likely to buttress air travel demand," commented Dr Harry Bush, Group Director, Economic Regulation.
He added that changes in the frequency of leisure travel between mid and higher levels of income also imply that growth is limited to an extent by the availability of leisure time in addition to economics.
