14 November 2007 Ski tourists looking "further afield"
Ski and snowboard tourists are travelling "further afield", it has been claimed.
According to research by American Express, high altitude winter sports resorts in Chile, Japan and Russia are set to be among the most popular ski destinations during the 2007-08 ski season as holidaymakers look to go to areas where snow is "guaranteed" to fall.
In addition, the United States and Canada are also on track to recive high numbers of winter tourists.
Joanne Field, marketing manager for American Express Travel Insurance, said: "The traditional lower altitude European resorts have suffered from poor snow conditions recently."
As a result, she reported that more ski and snowboard tourists are "travelling further afield to higher resorts".
However, she advised that as one in ten British skiers suffer an injury while out on the slopes, holidaymakers should make sure they take out travel insurance.
Earlier this year, the Association of British Travel Agents claimed that France is to be the most popular destination for British skiers.
