Snow falls across Europe
26 March 2008
Snow has been falling across Europe in the past week, leaving many traditional destinations for ski holidays deep in powder.
The Ski Club of Great Britain reports that almost constant snowfall was reported in the traditional destination of Austria last week, with St Anton boasting a depth of 330 centimetres on the upper slopes - one of the biggest snow depths in the Alps.
Other European resorts to have benefited from the recent snowfall include La Plagne, Alp d'Huez, Tignes, Zermatt and Avoriaz.
"It's been the best weekend of the season and I managed to get first tracks down Tortin. I have never done that before and I've been coming here for years," Ski Club rep in Verbier Gerry Aitken told the Ski Club.
Meanwhile, Ski Club member, Sarah Vizard reported "fluffy" powder snow on the piste in Cervinia, Italy.
Across the Atlantic, Whistler in Canada has also benefited from great snowfalls in recent days.
