25 September 2007 South-east Asia tourist market 'to be opened up'
Low-cost flights to south-east Asia are opening up destinations such as Malaysia and Thailand to tourists, it has been reported.
According to Investors Provident, cheap flights are making far-flung destinations increasingly accessible to a variety of travellers.
Furthermore, director of Investors Provident Hetal Shah noted that such flights - including ones which will fly directly from the UK to Kuala Lumpur will "do for the Far Eastern market what easyJet has done to the European sector".
"There are actually low-cost airlines that are starting from the UK to go directly to Kuala Lumpur. They're supposed to start in September or October of this year. AirAsia X is one of them," he added.
The Far East looks to be increasingly attracting overseas interest. In June, fund performance and analyses presentation programme Lipper Hindsight reported that the property sector in Malaysia has seen a growth of roughly 77 per cent in the last year.
