01 October 2007 Spain promoted as tourist destination
Spain is currently being promoted as a tourist destination for Europeans.
According to the Sophia Echo, the Sofia Hotel Radisson was recently the location for a meeting between the Spanish Tourism Institute and the Spanish Tourism Office (STO) in Vienna.
At the conference, representatives of regional Spanish tourism offices attempted to promote Spain as a tourist destination.
"Bulgarian tourists were mostly looking for beach holidays in Spain but in the past years there has been also an increased interest towards city breaks, round-country tours and language courses," the publication noted.
Meanwhile, director of STO Vienna Felix de Paz reported that Spain was the second most popular country in the world for tourists, according to 2006 figures.
Spain, Turkey and Greece were all recently reported to be Bulgaria's main rivals in terms of tourism, according to the newspaper.
