16 January 2008 Spain sees rise in tourist numbers
There was a rise in the number of tourists visiting Spain in 2007, according to reports.
Spain's main tourism body has revealed that the country saw a 2.2 per cent increase in tourism figures in 2007 compared to 2006, Reuters reports.
In total, the number of tourists entering Spain in 2007 reached 59.7 million, the online news agency noted, with hotel chain Exceltur predicting that Spain will smash the target in 2008.
"For 2008, we expect 60.7 million tourists in Spain," Exceltur executive vice-president Jose Luis Zoreda claimed.
Figures from the group show that sun and beach holidays rose by 0.7 per cent in 2007 and accounts for 70 per cent of tourism.
Additionally, there has been an increase in short city breaks, Exceltur figures suggest.
The Telegraph recently reported that the Costa Brava is a good holiday location for families with young children.
