29 January 2008 Spiders and tigers at airport
Holidaymakers travelling through Aberdeen Airport have been caught with a variety of unusual items in recent months.
Customs officials at the airport have been shocked to find travellers attempting to take a variety of animals - dead and alive - through channels in the Scottish city's airport.
Among these finds was as dead tiger, hidden in luggage, a pet parrot and a giant spider.
The parrot was uncovered as the customs officer attempted to scan the box through security checks, leading the owner to declare "it's my parrot".
He then extracted a pet tarantula from his pocket.
"Our staff come across all sorts of weird and wonderful things on a daily basis, sometimes unusual and funny, but some are dangerous or illegal weapons," commented airport security training officer Neil Fowler.
While the attempted animal smugglers were simply turned away some of the more dangerous items uncovered included decorative throwing knives, a TNT alarm clock and a telescopic baton.
